Context

On an exchange, the trading screen is where people notice lag first. Prices, the order book and fills all need to update together, even when the market is busy.

I built LCX’s trading interface from scratch in React and Redux, with TradingView charts. I also added WebSocket push between the frontend and backend.

Step 1 / 3

  1. A new trading interface in React and Redux, with TradingView for the charts.

  2. I added WebSocket push between the backend and the frontend. Trade execution time dropped by half.

  3. It stayed stable and quick for more than 50,000 users during peak trading.

Outcome

  • Trade execution time went down by 50%.
  • It held up for more than 50,000 users at peak.
